Forever Athlete

We don’t just stop being an athlete once the crowd leaves.

We still love to compete.

So what is a Forever Athlete?

It’s the busy adult that’s still competing-

Not against anyone else,

But against decay.

It doesn't matter if you played sports.

Ultramarathon. 5k. Lap around the block.

Distance is irrelevant.

Staying in the game isn’t.

It’s the dad who trains before work.

The former athlete that misses the locker room.

The 45-year-old mom who still wants to move well.

It’s not about how far or how fast.

It’s about refusing to throw in the towel.

My competitive career ended years ago.

I never stopped being an athlete.

If anything, I train with more focus now than I ever did.

Yes-I want to be healthy.

Yes-I want to look good.

But more than that, I want to be capable.

I just feel off when I don’t move.

I train because I love the ritual.

Crank the music. Turn the world off.

Let’s work.

My kids don’t get it now.

It’s just normal to see mom or dad head out for a run.

But one day I want them to say:

Damn.

They never quit on themselves.

This isn’t an 8 week program.

It’s a philosophy.

A mindset.

Not grind culture.

It evolves as life happens.

Getting older is inevitable-If we’re lucky.

Letting that inner athlete fade?

That’s optional.

Play on.
